The Story of Gone with the WEB
By: Taban Khajehnassiri

I like people of the world. They try one more time. They re-build what is completely destroyed. They just say 'let it go' and carry on! They think innovative. They try to re-construct their shelters on a better foundation. We have to live it all with new ways of thinking and innovation.

When I started to think about writing this editorial, I wanted first to write about latest incidents occured around the world in August and September. As a warm-up, I wanted to write about a tale of the two major Earthquakes in Turkey and Taiwan and dedicate my writing to incidents' victims. I thought to write about the recent Floyd Typhoon in the Eastern Coast of America and express my deep regrets and feelings to those who have lost their home and everything in a wink. Meanwhile, I wanted to make also notes on East Timor's crisis. I wanted to ... but since there were so many incidents beyond this small piece of editorial, I re-built my own construction to write down about WebQuakes in our Iranian web sites, from Zan Daily Newspaper when it was in Avand.com, from Jaame'e to Toos, from Toos to Neshat, from Neshat to Akhbar-e-Eghtesad. I wanted to write and write ... but I changed my mind! (Suddenly!)

Anyway, It is sometimes unbearable and sad when you are marked as a HOME(PAGE)LESS on the web! And that's why I call it a typhoon, a quake or a real crisis (due to the expenses, paperworks, innovative thinkings and designings etc.) But I like people of the world. They try one more time. They re-build what is completely destroyed. They just say 'let it go' and carry on! They think innovative. They try to re-construct their shelters on a better foundation. We have to live it all with new ways of thinking and innovation. I don't know your views, but I like the whole idea of endurance, the story of "Gone with the WEB!"

This Article published first electronically as an editorial of WWN September 25 1999. Daily newspapers mentioned here were all shut down by sudden verdicts of guilty by a series of sudden decisions made by courts. It was at the same time a shock for all those reporters and staff trying for the above-mentioned newspapers. I wrote this note for those who designed the online presence of those newly launched (at the time) daily papers on the net. Many lost their jobs because of these verdicts!
