This article first published as the editorial of WWN, Dec 25, 1999. Close to the Y2K bug, Taban was extremely optimistic.
Seven days ahead, year 2000 starts and to me it seems that the fundamental
solution to Y2K bug has been the fact that "OK! let's see what will happen
within the minutes after the midnight." Maybe millions of Computer and
Internet addicts have been lucky enough to prepare UPS's and candles in
case the power goes off, but what about servers, satellite links and all
other aspects of the bug. Anyway, Y2k is close, and to mark this occasion
which I have always wanted to have a chance to live and witness what a
newspaper in the U.S (The New York Post) called "the dawn of a new
millennium" I have decided to be Extremely Optimistic for the coming days
and night about the world in the new millennium exactly when I am watching
the "Year 2000 cam" at http://www.nypost.com/millenium/newyearseve99.htm .
In 2000 and Beyond, I would like to see the world, all in health, in peace
and friendship. No more illnesses, no more Cancers, no more AIDS, no more
pains, no wars, no disputes and killings. I'd like to see computers and
the internet working properly and correct faster and faster, with no bugs,
no viruses, no spams and no hate mails. I'd like to see the sky; blue,
clean and clear. In 2000 and beyond, what would you like to see? How do
you see our future? What do the scientist discover? What about new
inventions and innovations? Are there any huge opportunities for
e-commerce on the Internet? How do you see marketing, investing and
banking? Write it down and send me your views. We will feature it right
here in WWN's Articles.
