The article presented as the editorials of WWN in August 99.
It is called the WORLD WIDE WEB, but some experts in the world have called
it the WORLD WIDE WAIT! In Iran, we are experiencing 'the Wait' part of the
web. The Internet connection is Slow and time consuming, we are still
waiting for a faster and more reliable connection to the Internet. On the
Internet, the Information sources in Farsi are so limited, we are still
waiting for some organizations or individuals to find solutions for such
limitations. Iranian Internet Service Providers note please: We are facing a
large number of bouncing and not delivered mails in our daily Internet
communications. In this case, we are waiting for better mail serving and
services. As a whole, We see The WORLD WIDE WEB weakly and this is why we
call it in our newsletter the WORLD WIDE WEAK, because it is not just our
problem, when you are communicating with the world it must be considered as
a global problem since this will affect others in the world. Iranian
scientists, researchers, traders, merchants, businessmen are somehow trying
to rely and count on the interactivity of the web, when mails fail to
properly deliver on time, sound and safe! On the other hand, it is almost
impossible to pace with the e-commerce of the world with mail orders. We
believe in WWN, our managers in Iran must be briefed and informed with the
latest issues on e-commerce, it is still on our part 'a WAIT' or 'a WEAK"
approach. Unfortunately just like Y2K bug, it is not taken seriously in
Iran. In WEBFAQT WEEKLY NEWS, we welcome your views, comments and solutions
you may have in this regard and we would reflect it to our readers.
To produce, to perform or to achieve a goal, we have to be strong and
powerful. And as we say in our own language (Farsi): "Sang e Bozorg,
alaamat e Nazadan ast!" That is why, I tried to keep this newsletter 'a
little stone' or (Sang e Koochak) to be able to keep on working on this
task.
Last week Dr. Ahmad Reza Lotfi, Assistant Professor of English Dep. of
Esfahan azad University wrote to me that 'Webfaqt has to use more thematic
ties in its WWN mailings to find more readers.' As a matter of fact,
there are some important points that I have to mention here as the editor of
WWN to clarify the main objectives of WWN mailing-list more. The first point
is that in WWN, the main theme is "the IRANIAN Web sites on the Net",
without any special sub-theme. In each and every issue of the WWN, I have
tried to focus on a main subject, for instance, On-line Iranian Daily
Newspapers, Iranian Web Directories or Search Engines. When I started WWN as
a service to the Iranian Internet community, I was just thinking to
introduce and report on the main theme - the Iranian Sites - on the Net as
they come to exist on almost a daily basis. And that is all for WEBFAQT!
The other point is that working on thematic ties in our Newsletter can be
considered as a 'project" requiring Team Work. It also requires more
research, fact finding and in other words, more time and money. At the
present itme, we have only three or four (brief) stories, news or reports in
WWN. For instance, in this issue of WWN, The theme of the newsletter is Art,
Architecture and music, and surely you know this is a WWT (WORLD WIDE
TOPIC!) to cover in our WWN, But I have collected some items to let you know
about them. In fact, I think IT IS thematic but not in a wider scope.
I believe, for a thematic Newsletter, I have to present at least a dozen
items, and the last point comes over here that yet we have not faced such
number of Iranian sites on the Internet (for some themes and subjects it may
be true.) If you go for the Iranian Web Directories on the Internet, you
will see that they are all presented almost empty! It seems Iranian
webmasters do not want to promote their sites in almost all well known
search engines - Perhaps it brings them more viewers, and more viewers
expect somehow more working, maintaining, updating and etc. ... - For a
thematic achievement, I have a web directory under serious construction
dedicated to the Iranian Web Sites. and thanks God it will be available in
Webfaqt registered site soon. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you
and I always welcome your views, comments and criticism. Stay in touch with
your Webfaqt Weekly News!
